john's church. this book of common prayer was used by presidents of forward until it was taken out of service and a new edition was published in 1880's. in 1961, when a service was planned at st. john's to recognize the first attendance, this was found in the archives. it was discussed with chief leaders. they said it would be a good idea to have every president still living to sign it, and for every president that would follow them to sign it as well. what we have inside this historic book are the signatures of herbert hoover, franklin roosevelt, which was signed by his wife, eleanor roosevelt, harry truman, and dwight eisenhower, lyndon johnson, john kennedy, richard nixon, gerald ford, jimmy carter, ronald reagan, george bush, and so on. more recently, george w. bush and barack obama. the tradition has been maintained. when a new president is elected, st. john's makes an effort to contact them and have them sign this historic book, which is a very dear item to the church. it is one of those great

they actually think they might be john rambo or other people. it is ironic that the same people getting paid $40 million for these movies will stanberry and say we have a gun control problem -- will stand there and say we have a gun control problem. you should've thought about that before you accepted $40 million for the movie. it is despicable when you do that for a living and all you see in the movie is people getting blown up. the more people that gets killed, the more people that go watch the movie. then you say we have a problem with gun control. i really do believe deep down that no matter what gun-control laws are in effect, you could not stop the shooting in newtown or aurora. these are people that not only did it with nine out of 10 illegal guns, but there's a guy who killed his mother, which is mentally ill right there, stole her gun, and unfortunately heard these children. hearts have to go out to the parents, but i don't think any gun laws couldn't stop to that. any executive order for anything, whether it's gun- control or anything.

i'm here representing mayor bloomberg, along with john, the criminal justice coordinator of the new york city. and mayor nutter echoed what the president said and this is common sense. this is a commonsense proposal. the vice president said that this is an effort to diminish the possibility. we know we're not going to eliminate, you know, all gun violence, but it certainly will diminish the possibility of having another newtown. so mayor bloomberg, who has been a major force i know is pleased with this proposal. and i know also that of course he urges congress to get onboard quickly. the president said it's going to be a struggle but i believe all of the major law enforcement organizations will support the administration in this effort. so this is a good day. we also like the fact that the president mentioned the possibility of more police officers. many departments throughout the country have been significantly reduced as a result of the financial crisis. so we're hopeful that there is legislation that will significantly help us in manning our post and staffing our police departments th
